Flying with children goes more smoothly when the flight is planned and children understand what to expect when flying.

When you fly with children, remember that flying is confining, especially on those long-haul flights and that kids can be energetic. Explain flying to them and work off energy first, then have enough toys etc to keep the kids entertained during flight for the best trips for yourself and fellow passengers.

Here are 7 tips that might be useful:
1. Allow time before flight
If you want your holiday to go smoothly, start by allowing ample time before the flight. If your children are flying for the first-time, you will need even more time for them to take in all of this new experience.
2. Work off energy before flying
Flying will be more pleasant if you can get your children to work off some energy before the flight. Use every opportunity to walk and move around before boarding.
A. Let children walk with you from the car park.
B. Take them to the Observation Deck to watch planes land and take-off.
3. Check luggage first, then park car
Drop off one person if possible to wait with the luggage, and park the car. Then the children can walk with you from the car park. It is easier than trying to carry luggage and herd children at the same time.
4. Take children to bathroom before boarding and landing
When the captain illuminates the seat belt sign, children and adults can not leave their seats even for nature. Explain this before you fly and they might not even use the bathroom as an excuse for roaming around.
5. Let children take turns at the window
A window seat is the best place to sit on the air plane to view the trip - especially take-off and landings. If you have the opportunity to get a window seat, let the children take turns to look out the window.
6. Arrange for children to trade places to share parents
This travel time is an opportunity for some quality time with each child. Plus, children who are enjoying uninterrupted attention from Mom or Dad are less likely to grow restless while flying.
7. Bring toys, books, and games for the flight
Small wrapped presents are good attention grabbers when travelling. They also help to break the time into small segments: the time between gifts. Books and games will also keep children amused plus most airlines do carry a supply of children’s packs.
